wtf are content pillars?

I don’t think this gets explained very well.

A pillar isn’t a topic like “behind the scenes” or “educational posts” or a row on a content calendar…it’s more specific than that. It can feel repetitive.

If someone followed you for six months, what would they say you talk about? That’s your pillars. Or it should be.

Most people don’t have a clean answer to that question. Their content is reactive, they post when inspired, about whatever feels relevant that week. You make content that is more focused on self-instead of the audience. Which means their audience never quite builds a picture of who they are, trust is slow to build, community feels out of reach & as a business owner, you’re starting from level zero every single day. (It might be why you hate social media…)

In my own content, everything I make fits somewhere in my pillars. Some posts do double duty and absolutely none of them require me to figure out what I’m about.
